Artist Joan McKeeman.
Born in Greenock and studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1977-81. This is clearly evident in the approach to landscape utilising loose expressive brushwork and a colourist focus.
I have lived and worked in various locations on the west coast of Scotland including Uist and Barra for over 10 years. This has created an emphasis on light, seasons and weather which is as relevant to urban settings as it is to rural. The change in colours and mood is equally apparent in the streets and the open areas of towns and cities.
Since returning to Greenock I have been drawing and painting the familiar locations known by the people here to be beautiful, restorative and awe inspiring. Inverclyde enjoys a place in the landscape that can hardly be beaten for coastal views and watching the changing seasons on the hills and mountains of Argyll. But I also want to show those corners around town that are surprising for their beauty and tranquility.
